The Interior Design Show, now in its 12th year, and presented for the first time by Rado, is moving to a new location: the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. This year's incarnation, IDS 10, is also introducing a new citywide festival as part of the three-day event, which gets under way with an opening-night party dubbed "The Ultimate" on January 21.

The Toronto International Design Festival (presented by Rado and Audi), a new festival celebrating local and international design, begins one day prior to the show and continues through the weekend. Venues around the city, including the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Design Exchange, will host exhibits, lectures, and fairs as part of the festival.

This year's event also includes the inaugural Conversations in Design symposium where designers from around the globe will discuss sustainable design at an all-day session called A World Without Oil.

The show, created by Steven and Shauna Levy in 1999 and presented by the Chicago-based Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. since 2001, attracts 300 exhibitors and features a number of trademark exhibits such as DesignNext, a selection of work by design schools and students, and Space Concepts, the theme of which is the Ultimate. This year, four teams—including designers Arren Williams, Drew Mandel of Drew Mandel Design, Jason MacIsaac, and the design firm Munge Leung in partnership with Ink Entertainment's Charles Khabouth—are creating spaces that meet their personal definitions of the ultimate space.

Additional IDS 10 sponsors include Azure, Dekla, Ikea, Jenn-Air, Krups, Para Paints, Scavolini, House & Home Media and The Globe & Mail.
